Overview
A number of specialist loans and associated funding
instruments have been designed by Nedbank to cater
for different circumstances.
Types of Specialist Loans
The main specialist loans offered by Nedbank Lesotho
are:
- Project Finance
- Guarantees
- Letters of Credit
Project Finance
- This is financing for funding for major capital
projects and movable assets and the development of
commercial, industrial and mining property, as well
as the equipment associated with such undertakings,
with specific regard to the uniqueness of each
operation.
- The asset financed is usually owned by the bank
until paid in full by the customer.

Guarantees
This is a written undertaking in which the bank
undertakes to pay a certain amount on behalf of you
as our customer, should a certain event occur or if
the customer fails to carry out the specified terms
of a contract.
We offer the following services:
- Government departments and other individuals or
bodies often require guarantees that payment of a
sum of money will be effected or that certain work
will be done.
- Property guarantees are often furnished by the
bank on behalf of our clients to the seller that
payment will take place upon transfer of the
purchased property
- Shipping guarantees: These are guarantees in favour of foreign banks to facilitate the
importation of goods. Usually requested by foreign
sellers to ensure that they will receive payment
once the goods have been sent to the buyer’s
country.
Letters of Credit
- This is a written undertaking in which the bank
undertakes to pay a certain amount on behalf of its
customers when the conditions of the letter of
credit have been fulfilled.
- Customer is usually requested to provide funds
necessary to secure the issuing of a letter of
credit by the bank, whereas in other cases, normally
subject to credit requirements, the bank may provide
the necessary loans to facilitate the issuing of the
letter of credit
